Supporting Climate Justice Leaders to Protect the Health and Safety of Communities
|
The climate crisis is the biggest health threat facing humanity, according to the World Health Organization. Although this impacts us all, data shows that the effects of the climate crisis disproportionately impact communities of color and people who are economically disadvantaged. That's why Tides has been partnering with corporate social impact leaders who recognize the importance of listening to communities most affected and investing in the solutions they prescribe.
In this Corporate Social Impact Quarterly, we focus on the ongoing fight for environmental justice and how corporations like Google are partnering with nonprofits such as Elevate and GRID Alternatives to advance vital environmental and energy justice initiatives across the country through the Google Nest Renew Energy Impact Program. We also highlight how Tides’ Foundation Frontline Justice Fund is empowering grassroots leaders to confront environmental and climate legal battles.
We're planning a convening of climate justice leaders and members of the Frontline Justice Fund, who will discuss the fund’s grassroots approach to environmental justice funding. Look out for more details about the event, and we hope to see you there!

Tides’ newly established Frontline Justice Fund supports grassroots environmental organizations that are fighting for climate justice through litigation. Whether the fight is against the U.S. government or extractive industries, these environmental justice organizations are usually in a classic David versus Goliath situation. Through the lens of community leaders fighting for basic rights — clean air, clean water, and other environmental protections — we explore how the fund is balancing power to protect the environment and communities.

Listen in as Dawn Kwan, a senior advisor at Tides, sits down with Elevate, GRID Alternatives, and Google Nest to learn more about their goals for this innovative partnership, the impact it has supported at the local level, and their advice for listeners who want to make their mark in the environmental justice space.
